What is a Fractional Laser?
A fractional laser uses heat to punch a small hole in the surface of the scarred or damaged skin while leaving the surrounding healthy skin intact. Basically, this technique allows the damaged skin to heal by using the reservoir of stem cells and fibroblasts from the healthy skin to fill in the hole.
The result is the spread of healthy skin over the damaged area which in turn removes, if not greatly reduces the damaged skin. In addition to fractional lasers, there are also fractional devices that use radio frequencies to do the same thing. However, they have the same type of side effects that lasers offer as well.
What is Derma Stamp Pen?
Derma stamp pen is a mechanical device that uses tiny needles to puncture the skin in order to create the healing process that reduces and may even remove scar tissue. While the application of the derma stamp pen and fractional lasers are the same, the results are achieved in different ways. A laser will actually burn away the epidermal layer which in turn may inhibit the collagen under the skin from filling in the gap left behind.
A derma stamp pen has no heat and thus will not create the unwanted side effects of a laser. In fact, this mechanical device offers many advantages as well starting with its very low cost and easy use. However there are other advantages as well. They are as follow:
- Less Pain
- Fewer Infections
- Less Post-Inflammatory, Hyper and Hypo Pigmentation Events
- Induce collagen with only 1 treatment
- Fewer Incidents of Persistent Erythema
Why Derma Stamp Pen is Superior to Fractional Laser
In addition, therapy that involved light-based treatments is not recommended for all skin types. In fact, the FDA has placed limits on the types of skin that may be treated by a fractional laser which centers on darker skin tone. Because the holes that are drilled by the laser are affected by the type, thickness and vascular nature of the skin, it is restricted to certain skin types.
The major complication as reported by light-based therapy products like the fractional laser is what is known as the post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation (PIH) in particular skin types that include those whose origins are Mediterranean, African and the Orient. PIH creates what is known as symmetric hyper-pigmented patches on the face and is one of the most distressing disorders that is seen in dermatology clinics around the world. It is very difficult to treat and there are many cases of relapses as well.
However, the derma stamp pen has no such complications because it is a mechanical process. It does not utilize light to achieve its goals. Therefore, it is safe for all skin types. Very few reported side effects have occurred when using this process.
This is the exact reason why this little microneedling device has become so popular and is now the primary choice for so many people around the world to get rid of their facial scarring.
